The 'Purple Spotted Phalaenopsis' is also known as the 'Moon Orchid' or 'Moth Orchid.' Plant parents tend to have a love/hate relationship with orchids, and many orchid owners have unconventional watering or growing techniques that they swear by, but the TL:DR is that orchids are not for the faint of heart.

They can be very tricky, even for experienced plant parents, and require consistency above all. They like medium to bright indirect light and thrive in humid environments, making them a great choice for a bright bathroom.

Because orchids are technically epiphytes – plant-like organisms that grow on the surface of other plants – they require different potting material and planters than most other houseplants, and are watered differently to make sure their roots don’t get soggy. If you want to wade into the complex but wonderful world of orchids, a Phalaenopsis like this one is a perfect place to start.
