Also called the Zebra Plant, this delicate beauty is a horse of a different color with its millennial pink-striped leaves. It’s not quite as fussy as some of its Calathea cousins, such as the Pinstripe, but these colorful companions still need extra humidity to avoid crispy leaf tips. Beauty Stars don’t like to dry out, but don’t like overwatering either.

A Beauty Star makes an adventurous yet manageable first Calathea, but a Calathea does not usually make a good first houseplant.

Care Level: 4 - Needs extra TLC, previous experience recommended.

Likes: Indirect light, humidity, filtered/distilled water.

Dislikes: Drafts/vents, dry air, tap water, direct sunlight.

Watering Frequency: Every 5-7 days.
